Democrats In Charlotte
Michael Dodson didn’t have to go to Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama’s $1,000-a-plate Charlotte fund-raiser Friday to appreciate the significance of his campaign.
No better way to connect to the African American voter than to hold a $1,000 plate of food dinner. Sounds like the first step towards “keeping it real”.
“He’s probably the first African-American candidate the country has taken seriously,” Dodson, a junior at Johnson C. Smith University, said in the school’s student union Friday morning.
Thats right Dodson, that’s because hes the first black canidate to not run on a platform of simply his color. Obama is actually half black, but it appears the black community wants to rush in and claim him as some sort of personal property.
Obama is so popular because he is an educated, accomplished American. He does happen to have dark skin, but if that is what you like about him, you need to learn more about the man himself. His suport from voters of all colors comes for respect for his accomplishments and education, making that the intelligent voter response.
He does also have voters and haters based solely on his color, which both of those groups of people are wrong and ignorant.
Not voting for a man due to his race is wrong and ignorant, but voting for a man solely for his race is equally ignorant.
I personally respect all he has accomplished and his compromising and intelligent message, I dont thoug like his stances on many issues. These are the reasons I respect him, but wont vote for him.
“History beckons us,” he said, according to one guest, Charlotte lawyer David Erdman.
This comment connects to my above statement of ignorance for anyone that lets race choose, (or not choose) a canidate in their mind. Hate based on race is ignorant, but support solely for race is equally wrong in politics.
“A lot of black people are sitting on the fence about him,” said businessman Victor Alexander outside the B&J barbershop.
Obama acknowledged that.
Alot of white people too, it really has nothing to do with race in an educated voters mind. Obama is actually half of each race, so why would either gorup have a problem with the man. I hope people judge all canidates by their words and actions.
I dont agree with Obama’s goals and weak international stances, but other than that hes a good canidate.
It is really my hope and I am sure Obama’s too that a smart voter will have something to say about him as a canidate other than his skin color. If “To be color blind” is the dream of America, then why are so many black voters pointing out his color and no other issues? For this matter why is anyone caring after all his hard work is this something that should matter at all to anyone on either side?
Here are Obama’s parents, so let just call it a draw and look at what matters, which is his fine record and current views on key issues.
WAIT, It gets worse when the Hillary fans open their mouths:
“I love Hillary Clinton,” cosmetologist Samantha Diggs, 41, said as she leaned over a customer. “I love her style. I love her concern for us as African-Americans.”
Ecspecially the way she pretended to sound like a southern black preacher from the 19th century just to get your vote. A speaker that respects their audience is above all else honest in their appraoch, this is not what she did.
Polls show African-Americans divided between Obama and Clinton, 59.
All voters are divided on all canidates in the lead right now. I would hope black voters are divided at an equal percentage as all other groups. This statistic would mean they are judging on merit at an equal rate as all other groups, this would be a smart voters reaction.
African-American support is crucial to both candidates during the primaries, particularly in South Carolina, where as many as half the Democratic voters in January’s primary will be black.
Thanks captain obvious. Black voters are important in South Carolina? thats shocking news worthy of printing. All votes are important.
Clinton benefits from the fond memories many black voters have of her husband’s administration. JCSU senior Travis Burgin said, “Whenever you think about Hillary, you automatically think of Bill.”
I liked Bill too, do you think voting for his wife will put him in charge? Try a write in vote for Bill. If Hillary Clinton is not even the best canidate in her house, how is she the best choice in the entire country?
Bill Clinton is the reason sophomore Donnell Hopkins supports Hillary.
“As long as Bill Clinton is back in the White House somewhere, I’m all for it,” he said.
This is the kind of voter a Liberal Canidate dreams of. A person that will cast the vote for the leader of the free world based on her “husband is real cool”.
“Because he’s black — bottom line,” librarian Elisha Minter said, explaining her support for Obama. “He’s qualified.”
This line is more racist than what got Imus canned. Many a tv sports analyst has been fired for making stereotypes or generalizations even when they are positive traits.
The bottom line is that if you choose a canidate, ANY CANIDATE, based on color alone, you are an ignorant voter.
Obama has worked his life to build a great resume for the job of President of the United States, and you point out the one thing that doesnt matter at all as his defining characteristic?
Ms. Minter should try to find a Library and read Obama’s books about his actual accomplishments. Start here with Dreams From My Father. If you get through that his new book is The Audacity Of Hope discussed here.
“If you’re black, you’ve got to decide whether you’re going to vote for Bill Clinton again or a black man. That’s not a bad choice for minorities.”
Another slice of stupidity here. Everyone has the right to pick who they want, but a collective vote of this type of non-thought is going to get us what we asked for. People speak like were voting for “homecoming queen” or “team captain”.
In Conclusion, I wont vote for either of these pretend sympathists that try to cater to the voters in the room at the time. I feel Obama is perhaps the most consistant canidate of either party. He has been right on the same message and never wavered. Obama has been the most open to tear down party walls, which is a great move for America. Obama has been honest and forthcoming and is a man worthy of the respect I show him here on this site….BUT. I wont vote for him as he is weak on the war, he ignores the threats that build against us internationally and he underminds the current president even if he has valid reasons. I also will not support his weak stance on immigration. Hillary I wont vote for because shes a coattail riding nobody that even on the streets of her supporters is merely “Bills Wife”. Shes not the best canidate in her house, so not even close to qualified to lead a country.
