Pelosi and House Leaders’ Lack of Response to the British Sailor Hostage Crisis Troubles Christian Defense Coalition

WASHINGTON, Apr. 2 /Christian Newswire/ — The Christian Defense Coalition says it is important for the House of Representatives to condemn acts of tyranny, injustice and human rights violations committed against free nations around the world by governments that have no regard for international law.

The Coalition says the House should have followed the lead of the United States Senate which condemned the act, “in the strongest possible terms,” and called for the sailors “immediate, safe and unconditional release.”

The Christian Defense Coalition’s Director, the Rev. Patrick J. Mahoney, comments, “It appears Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats are more interested in routinely condemning the actions of the Bush Administration than condemning the lawless actions of President Ahmadinejad and his administration.”

The group says silence on this issue by the House only emboldens the radical elements in the Iranian government.

Rev. Mahoney goes on to state, “It is critical that in the face of lawless acts, violence and injustice the United States speak out with a loud a passionate voice. Silence only emboldens tyranny. That is why it is so troubling and disappointing that Speaker Pelosi and the House Leadership have remained silent on the British hostage crisis with Iran. The government in Tehran needs to know, in the strongest possible terms, that the United States stands against this blatant disregard for international law.

One gets the sense, that at times, Speaker Pelosi and the House leadership are more focused on condemning the policies of President Bush, than supporting human rights and speaking out against tyranny around the world. I hope that the Speaker returns back to core principles of Democrats years ago when human rights, justice and security mattered more than partisan politics.”
