CMPD’s HITS Unit conducted a DWI checkpoint on Thursday night that began at 11:00pm and ended at 2:30am. The checkpoint was conducted on North Tryon Street at Dalton Avenue. It netted the following:

7 DWI’s
4 Driving After License Revoked
3 Open Containers
4 Drug Violations
1 Littering Citation
1 Warrant
20 No Operator’s License
66 Other Charges

So I think we all know my next question here?

How many of these non licensed drivers were carrying “foreign” licenses or in the country illegally?

If the number is half, which is perhaps very low estimate, then we still have more illegal immigrants driving with no license (no insuance) than we have DWI’s.

And these stats are from 11 - 2am, and still DWI was a far second to “no license”.

We push so many laws against drunk drivers while a much more pressing matter may be the number of unlicensed and uninsured on the streets.

Maybe our friends at crimeincharlotte can tell us who to ask this piece of relevent and very important information that never seems to make it to the media.
