Well, the debate tonight was a major dissappointment which tends to be the CNN norm these days.

Firstly CNN put the “star” candidates in the center of the stage and basically treated the 2nd tier candidates as very second rate citizens.

It seemed the entire debate centered around John McCain, Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney which are the mainstream candidates and get far too much attention.

It was clear tonight that the smartest and most impressive candidates where not McCain, Romney or Giuliani but the CNN team just wouldnt stop talking like the other 7 candidates were not there.

The questions that came semed very bottled and purposely spoon fed to candidates. The voter questions semed to be hand chosen to cover the main stream topics and not test the candidates away from the normal line of questioning.

Of the big three candidates Giuiani had one powerful moment where he showed his worth as a candidate. Once again Giuliani delivered his message on fre market health care as the only way to induce competition and reduce costs effectively. Giuliani had delivered this line before, but his common sense and factual line of thinking is powerful on this topic.

Again, McCain was the phoniest thing on the stage. Clearly he doesnt have the wits to win a game of Scrabble against any of the other much smarter candidates, and he constantly comes back to the same military jargon to hide his lesser intelligence and discomfort on the stage.

His phony act of sincerity to the woman who lost her brother semed about as real as a George W Bush speech, he looked like a puppet reading a card.

Later CNN showed there debate meter where you saw real time reaction to the comments by the candidates. Once again we see that AMERICA DOESNT WANT AMNESTY, as the meter hit an all time low during McCain trying to defend his push for amnesty for illegal immigrants.

No Americans want this bill.

CNN was clearly the worst host for the debates so far and only wanted the publicity of the main 3 candidates and not trying to give everyone an equal stage. The after debate was nothing but interviews and talk about McCain, Romney and Giuliani and offered no time to the much smarter Duncan Hunter, or the much better spoken Ron Paul.

Tancredo did great refuting the Immigration bill, and Huckabee had alot of courage to stand his ground.

Huckabeee was great no doubt what a smart man, While at the same time a monkey like McCain has 20%…what a joke.

I was sick and tired of hearing from Giuliani, McCain and Romney. I was disapointed not to hear more from Ron Paul who continued to impress me in the little time he was given.

You should see his old videos where he got more time, he is a powerful honest speaker.

I cannot wait for the violent street action to come. CNN and all the mainstream media outlets who have undereported and distorted all things 9/11 (especially Fox)should be the first to burn. Can you believe the way CNN marginalized Ron Paul? How can a so-called objective media outlet get away with not randomly placing the candidates on the stage? Burn baby burn.

    Go Ron.

Us Ron paul folks on the web are active.

If Anyone out there is in contact with Ron, we would love him to write us an article on his view for bettering our nations situation.

I thought CNN would improve on the others, but it did the worst job yet. Wolf B. just catered to the so-called “top tier” candidates, letting them all the time they wanted or needed and then restricting others. It was a joke. I’ve seen enough of R McR and I want to see what the others have to say! I watched the Democratic debate tonight and I noticed that there was no interrupting of them, they did not interrupt other candidates and were generally more graceful. Ron Paul is the most graceful and intelligent of the Republicans, that’s quite obvious.

I liked what Ron Paul said, when he got the chance to say it. He made excellent points about America’s foreign policy with oil, how we subsidize oil companies, and I simply loved his wonderful answer on the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy. The others could only try to copy it. He made an excellent point on the Christian “just wars”– Huckabee and Brownback and the others try to say they love and respect life, but they’re willing to throw away American lives in Iraq in a losing effort to “win” an unwinnable, ill-conceived war.

Tancredo made an excellent point on immigration; what no one mentioned was this McCain amnesty bill will basically just allow the richest illegal immigrants to get citizenship– it will cost thousands of dollars and require the head of the household to go back to Mexico, so most illegal immigrants won’t sign up and we’ll have the same status quo.

I absolutely LOVED Tancredo’s answer on the Bush question– what a horrible statement Rove had made to him and what a way to get back, in the debates. I’m glad he came out against that horrible man (unfortunately our president), whom the others have just pandered to.

Tommy Thompson did a great job on the health care question, he bores me most of the time but he stood out a bit more tonight. Duncan Hunter also did well in some areas.

Huckabee is being praised by others for his comment on evolution, but he basically said, “You can’t believe in God if you believe in evolution” and that’s just not going to fly because I can attest that you can certainly believe in both. Brownback had a more graceful answer, but it’s discounted because he doesn’t believe in evolution, either, which shows he doesn’t have the most basic understanding of science. Evolution could simply be God’s method.

The others just SUCKED, McCain wasn’t as bad as the others in the R McR trio, but they’re all amateurs compared to the intelligent, well-reasoned answers provided by Dr. Ron Paul.

When the American citizens who know what’s really at stake take to the streets in violent protest against the Neo-Con murderers and thieves who brought us 9/11, and are effectively suppressing all the principles this country is supposed to stand for, it will be a just war right here on American streets and against institutions public and private that have assaulted the integrity of our people and our rights.

    Go Ron!

You people are all crazy. Ron Paul would throw this nation’s security down the drain. Maybe he would have avoided the war, but now that we’re over there, we can’t turn back. McCain won this debate. To call him a phony for his sincere response to that young woman is incomprehensible to me. He’s the only man who has seen war, and understands it. You all would call anything short of deporting twelve million people amnesty, so I won’t pay your cries of “amnesty!, amnesty!” any mind at all. I’ll give the lower tier some respect, but only because of Huckabee. His response to the question about evolution was powerful.

  12. Victor Kittila on June 6th, 2007 11:40 am

Perhaps you don’t consider being a doctor as being in the miltary. I beg to differ. Ron Paul has seen what nobody else sees. Far from throwing our nation’s security down the drain, he offers the only viable approach to national security: STOP MAKING NEW ENEMIES!
We have no enemies in this world which we have not, ourselves, made. McCain’s contention that they will follow us home is rhetoric at best. If a thief is going to rob a house, will he wait until the owner returns? We are vulnerable now because our miltary is away on a crusade.

In Iraq there are two groups who are unwanted. Al-qaeda and our troops. Al-qaeda is tolerated simply because “my enemy’s enemy is my friend”. If we left Iraq, Iraqis would dispose of Al-qaeda. The longer we stay, the more Al-qaeda’s support will grow. Follow us home? It would be a very short war.

  13. John on June 6th, 2007 12:51 pm

Mitt Romney won the debate again. He is 3 for 3.

  14. SlickWilly on June 6th, 2007 1:54 pm

Agreed — this debate was not well done and time should be equally split between all candidates on stage.

That said, the group needs to be narrowed. I love Thompson, Brownback and Gilmore, but they should be tossed. They say nothing new and are a little boring. The other candidates are good to have around. Tancredo is the king of immigration (always better than even Hunter IMO). Hunter is solid, though he dropped from #2 to #5 on my list due to his uneventful attacks on other Republicans in this debate. Paul brings a good perspective on many issues and has no fear of saying how he sees it.

I still like seeing the top 3 though. While the others have good ideas, they’re really not in this election. They add substance to the conversation and keep the 3 honest, but are not really competing for the nomination.

Winner: Romney. He was weak on one question, but nailed most of the others in a way other candidates can’t–said precisely the right thing (substance) in the right way (style). Truth is, if Romney has the right substance, he’s at a different level than everyone else in debates. Paul, Tancredo, Huckster, Rudy were also all very good. McCain is simply acting against the conservative will. Poor chap is done.

  15. minor, cali on June 6th, 2007 3:50 pm

CNN hosted the worst debate so far. Its ridiculous how they think that the viewers cant see what they were doing last night , purposely avoiding Ron Paul , so they can spoon fed Rudy. Hollywood style.
