Observer Snubs Ron Paul?
Ask the Editor of the Charlotte Observer tackles a question on why they have been snubbing Doctor Ron Paul in the news?
A reader asked Rick Thames why Ron Paul, who has accomplished much online and with the military, has not been given equal time in the press of Charlotte?
In the end, I think Mr. Thames gave an answer and also proved the writers theory. You see, in the end he states that despite all of Ron Paul’s leading figures online, and in fundraising he is only 2% in the latest CNN mainstream poll.
For this reason of only 2% he is not worthy of equal coverage time, or is this the cause of the 2%?
So what is exactly is the “cause” and what is the “effect”?
The writer is implying that the limits and spin of mainstream sources of media have been working to counter Ron Paul, and perhaps this poll proves just that.
In every Republican debate, the televised or online poll of the broadcasting network showed Ron Paul as one of the top two favorites in every debate.
So when he gets equal exposure, he is well received and liked above the other candidates, so “which came first the chicken or the egg?”
Is lack of exposure causing the 2% poll?
or is the 2% poll an excuse for not offering exposure?
Writer asked “Today’s (7/24) Observer contains a detailed listing of upcoming South Carolina appearances by presidential candidates including Senators Obama, Clinton, McCain and Edwards. But you did not publicize, cover or even simply list last Saturday’s standing-room-only appearances by Rep. Ron Paul at a Spartanburg GOP luncheon and a Greenville rally. Why the slight to a candidate who:
(a) is raising more money than McCain;
(b) is raising more money from active military than ANY other candidate;
(c) has the most extensive and enthusiastic online presence?
Anonymous 7/24/07″
Observer Editor Answered “We are not yet to the point where we run daily schedules or activities of candidates in the South Carolina primary. We do try to let readers know when candidates are appearing within our circulation area. The schedule you saw was packaged with coverage of the presidential debate in Charleston featuring Democratic candidates. Editors assumed that readers would come out of that experience with a heightened interest in what candidates were doing the day after. I assume we would have run an item on Ron Paul’s activities had we known of any. Our political reporter, Jim Morrill, did feature Paul for a story when Republicans debated in Columbia. To this point, however, his candidacy does not appear to be catching fire with South Carolina voters. A CNN poll this week found his support to be among the lowest of all candidates, at about 2%. ”
(For the record: I met Mr Thames on one occasion, I asked him how he could compare the immigration of Cuban’s decades ago to the immigration from Mexico today (which he had in a letter to the editor esponse). He said he lived through both and the previous wave had been beneficial to the US…etc etc……
While I would never agree with this based on the legality and scale of the differences, I must say he was a very nice guy and very likeable at first meeting. I hate to put someone out there in an article without noting that all differences aside between the left and the right, there are good folks in our stories.)

What sentiment about the war best describes your views?

And if all else fails, Julie Annie and Willard (his real name) Romney won’t show up for a debate. Flipflop Fred’s still figuring out how to spin support for the war into opposition to it. Once a chicken hawk, always a chicken. CLUCK! CLUCK! CLUCK!
His campaign needs to start spending money. It’s time to shift to TV/radio/mail/paid campaigners. The internet arm of his power is great and cheap, yes. But it’s effectiveness can only carry his campaign so far.
One reason Ron Paul has a poor showing in traditional polls, is the firms conducting the polls know what areas to call to produce certain results. The whole system is gamed. Most of the so-called reporters don’t bother doing their own research, they just go by what the polls say. This is why they keep publishing misinformation.
If you want to know which candidate has the best grassroots support, you need look no further than http://ronpaul.meetup.com
Why should Dr Paul spend any money when he has the largest online meetup collective gloabally with, over 625 organizers and members doing the spending for him, while achieving personal satisfaction in the process? Ron Paul’s Revolution is not going to end with this campaign or election. It is changing media and America NOW. “Ye olde print” is resentful and fearful of the RP Revolution, which is the real shame, because if they were smart instead of comfortable in their shrinking world and self granduer, they would reach out to the Revolution and capitalize on it.
A poll on the side has Ron Paul about 3 to 1 against anyone else, on a page with a story about how low he is in the polls?
I’ve examined all RP-related internet news for months now. While his campaign has reigned supreme on the internet, mainstream internet and newsprint continues to lopsidedly bash him. Mainstreet America who doesnt spend time on the internet needs some exposure to him now, before Iowa.
Bottom line, his campaign needs to start spending money *at least strategically* in debate states. Don’t worry, he’s already going to get the matching funds.
It’s a self-fullfilling prophecy.
Don’t you think if any of the others had won the MSNBC or FOX poll after the debates it would have been hawked? I mean they were still calling Rudy the ‘front runner’.
The masses aren’t going to choose someone who’s name is not mentioned when they call. NOT ONCE have I been given the chance to vote for Ron in one of these mainstream polls.
Take heart: In 96 PJB had 6% and won with 27%…then they votefrauded him in Iowa..
I ran a third party campaign Last year for the Libertarian Governor candidate. When we ran Tv ads ( about 3000 toals). Our cverage shot up. We polled high as 9%.

The problem with the meetup groups is lack of commitment. Yes, there might be 100 members in a particular group, but try and get them to do something. You’ll be lucky to get 10.
It’s easy to sign up but it’s a whole other ball game to get some action.
Be part of that 10% !!!
I think the opinions of this site is clear. They won’t do anything until CNN polls tell them to.
So in reality this news outlet is just a repeater for the Established Main Stream Media outlets.

Um what Samoa? I am a member of that above mentioned meetup group. I have also reached to to Ron paul’s campaign ite to offer an outlet for his published article or press releases.
This outlet is a commentor on the works of MSM. I know where my support lies but thank you for your opinion.
Fritz, The story is how the Observer Editor, a liberal paper in most regards, says he is this low and that may warrant less coverage.
We publish the story to expose this sentiment by their outlet.
This is how we support Dr. Pual, by exposing anyone who may look him over as not part of this race.

I get it now! The job of the MSM journalists is to tell us new information (news), but they only tell us about the politicians that we already know all about because they keep telling us about them. They don’t tell us about the new politician because he lacks name recognition because they won’t tell us about him.
I get it now! They’re not really journalists. They just play them on TV, which is fully regulated, government-licensed and corporate-funded.
I will vote for Ron Paul and get my information from the internet. And I won’t be alone.
I do not have a land line phone. I am not part of the polling population because most of the polls call land lines.
HOW MANY OF US AREN’T REPRESENTED?
How can these polls tell the future????????
They can’t. So make up your own mind. We can’t depend on the media to tell us who to vote for. Look where it has taken us.
RON PAUL 2008
“I assume we would have run an item on Ron Paul’s activities had we known of any.”
Really?
I live in California, and I have known of Dr. Paul’s visit to your “circulation” area for at least a month.
If someone or something of note occurs 20 ft. outside of your “circulation” area, your saying you would not cover it?
Do you circulate to Iraq, D.C., Hollywood? No?
Oh, you cover national and world news?
So, Dr. Paul’s candidacy is less important to your “circulation area” than say…Lindsay Lohan.
Super.
Your “circulation” area should feel cheated and insulted.
The main stream media polls are using outdated techniques that no longer represent the American voting public in a fair way. First, nearly all 18-45 years old use cell phones, I am 41 and got rid of my land line 2 years ago. Next, the polling companies tend to drop younger voters, saying that they tend not to vote - thats true, but thats because we never had anyone good to vote for. Last, they tend to poll in narrowly defined fields - which tends to weed out everyone with the exception of those that watch the Sunday morning news shows.
Bottom line, not to worry keep pushing and telling everyone you know about Ron Paul.
Wow it seems the CCN believes cnn more than their own poll on the side of the page with like 50 % of the vote. So who is greasing the observer’s pockets that Editor is a paid shill.
Who are you voting for?
Other Republican. (1034)
Other Democrat (32)
Ron Paul (3060)
Rudy Giuliani (185)
Mike Huckabee (106)
John McCain (31)
Hillary Clinton (54)
Barack Obama (68)
Mitt Romney (1003)
Tom Tancredo (704)
6277 total votes
A CNN poll this week found his support to be among the lowest of all candidates, at about 2%. ”
So who is telling the truth CNN or CCN
we know the truth and now every reader of the editorial does too
I know who votes and from where, I would say that poll indicates more support than the media would admit, though he does have an army of online staff and followers eager to click all polls.
Id say that number is distorted, BUT I would say he is clearly in the top 2 or 3 amongst young voters in either party,….all polls aside.
Let that side poll be an indicator that his followers are active and plenty, and not take it to the exact figure.
Either way he is underestimated by the media.
NH brinngs up a good point:
“Take heart: In 96 PJB had 6% and won with 27%…”
What’s the track record of these polls?
What did the polls say in 2005, 2003, 2001, 1999, etc?
If the polls this far out have not had a good track record, then why should anyone base their news coverage on the landline polls?
I think the landline polls are gamed, and manipulated in a variety of ways by every side; everything from loaded questions, to poll takers who lie, to candidates who commission multiple polls from multiple pollsters, and then release the one that shows the most favorable results, to media representatives who write as if these polls are predictions carved in stone.
The truth is that these polls mean next to nothing. A lot can change in the next few days. A lot of volunteers (for every candidate) are going to be knocking on doors, and talking to people.
Ron Paul does very well among those that get to hear him. While many candidates are bringing in busloads of supporters, there is no way to really guarantee they will vote for that candidate.
I wonder how many will come, hear Dr. Paul’s speech, and then vote for him based on that speech?
We will find out…
Later.
I thought this was a Conservative news site, not an isolationist news site. Paul is a fraud, a hoax, a 9/11 conspiracy theorist, and not a Conservative. He’s snubbed because he’s a running gag at the Republican debates. Romney, Thompson, and EVEN MCCAIN have more substance than this guy. Paul’s campaign can’t spend money because THEY DONT HAVE MONEY. Geeze.
Justin Higgins, Dr. Ron Paul has a solid and consistent 20 year voting record, is a real American who isn’t afraid to dissent to the out of control Administration and congress, supports a new independent investigation into 9/11 to answer the hundreds of questions avoided by the original Bush-appointed commission, and Ron Paul is one of the most conservative politician to serve this Republic. He has been snubbed because the 1984ish Main Stream Media is owned by the elite bankers and corporate coglomerates that also control our money supply through the fraudulent Bank of England owned Federal Reserve. Ron Paul has more money than McCain and Romney would be broke if he didn’t loan his campaign 6 million of his own dollars. Thompson isn’t even running for president!
Here’s a “LIVE” lesson to help people learn about the media…. their polls didn’t fit their script…. funny, but serious…..
http://ihateronpaul.com/
Could it be possible at all that ‘the polls’ are not accurate??
Bottom Line, we have a media monopoly to contend with. All news is filtered and processed to serve the big government/globalist agenda and you don’t have a “conspiracy theorist” to figure that out. You just have to remove your head from your yeah-you-know. The so-called top tier GOP candidates are liberals. It’s just that simple. The words republican and conservative have very little to do with one another these days, but it’s critical to the globalists that we citizens (aka the great unwashed) remain blind to this very obvious reality. Dr. Paul is blowing the lid off this massive lie and cowardly media minions everywhere will stop at nothing to prevent this man from saving the country. If they succeed, then the best parts of being an American will dissapear for good. But yeah, we’re all crazy. Oh, one last thing, where’s Osama Bin Laden and why aren’t our “sane” leaders concerned about it? Too many profits to be made heh? Ron Paul in 2008. He’s better than your guy/gal!
Guys do relize you can buy ad space in Atlanta on CNN to be run in Atlanta for about 20.00 per ad.What Ron Paul supporters should do is buy thier own ads CNN or Fox.If you have any questions call me . Iwas the Political Director Of the Georgia Libertarian party for two years.

If journalists and editors and commentators would stop pointing to the National Poll Percentages, and do some research, they would learn that Dr. Paul’s base is as strong as anyone’s and the enthusiasm in his campaign is leaps and bounds ahead of the other GOP “frontrunners”.
Additionally, National Polls simply cannot poll the people who are the strongest force behind Dr. Paul. This is true for a couple of reasons.
1. National Polls cannot poll people who have never voted before (Many Ron Paul voters)
2. National Polls cannot reach people without Land Line Phones (Many Ron Paul voters)
3. National Polls cannot poll people who have only become eligible to vote in this election (Many Ron Paul voters)
Just once, I would like to see a major newspaper run a well researched, truthful examination of Dr. Paul’s campaign. If you’re going to compliment a candidate for something he strongly believes in (ALONG WITH 75% of AMERICA), then do it, don’t ridicule him along the way.

Enlightened One, you forgot
4. National Polls cannot poll members of the military who support Ron Paul more than any other candidate in any party BECAUSE THEY ARE FIGHTING FOR THEIR LIVES OVERSEAS! But many of them find a way to send him campaign contributions anyway.
Support the Troops. Vote for Ron Paul!
