WASHINGTON - Republican presidential hopeful John McCain on Thursday backed a scaled-down proposal that imposes strict rules to end illegal immigration but doesn’t include a path to citizenship.

The move away from a comprehensive measure is an about-face for the Arizona senator, who had been a leading GOP champion of a bill that included a guest worker program and would have legalized many of the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants living in the U.S. It failed earlier this year.

“We can still show the American people that we are serious about securing our nation’s border,” McCain said in a statement, adding that the new bill would “provide an essential step toward achieving comprehensive reform in the future.”

I figure if McCain is in on it, it is because he has a plan to slip in some Amnesty and Gravy parts for his illegal invaders!

What’s really shame is how people conservatives who opposed the immigration bill aligned themselves with Barbara Boxer because she thought the bill went TOO far.

This was necessary because your kind is a fringe group which has been pegged at 15 percent. just check out pollingreport.com

fringe group? is that the 78% that opposed amnesty?

Seemed alot of senators were afraid this “fringe group” would vote them out of office, pretty scared of just 15%?

“In the most recent Rasmussen Reports poll regarding the bill, released on June 6, only 23 percent of voters support the bill. ”

    From here

“Zogby Interactive poll of 8,300 representative adults nationwide found only 38 percent supported the bill currently being considered by the Senate, while 56 percent opposed it.”

    From here

Even with ownership of most major media outlets and hollywood, this is still a garbage idea that honest American oppose 2 to 1.

The problem with your link is that of all those immigration polls, and there are dozens of them there.

Not a single one says what we all want to see. Do you support amnesty in any form.

They all conveniently hide that word amnesty on every poll.

The closet one to a plain yes/no is:

Should ILLEGAL immigrants be prosecuted and deported for being in the U.S. illegally, or shouldn’t they?”

    69% say yes - 24% say no

again 2 to 1 americans dont want these criminals Damaging our country.

Why did I say “damaging”, …because of the next relevent poll on your link.

“”Generally speaking, do you think that illegal immigrants help or harm the nation’s economy, or do you think they neither help nor harm the nation’s economy?”

    54% Said HARM - 24% said help.

And this is in a nation of 15% legal hispanic residents. so we can assume half those saying yes could easily be hispanic themselves and partial.

No matter how poeple lie….Americans dont want criminals in our country.
