GOP Debate Grades
This debate was hard to pick a winner as FOX did such a poor job delivering a decent question. Also to compound this fact it was once again lopsided in air time. Many picked McCain as the winner, but that may be because he spent 3 times as much time speaking as Ron Paul or Duncan Hunter.
The debate started at 9PM and the first question Ron Paul was asked came at 9:31pm EST.
An entire episode of Seinfeld could have been played (including commercials) and you wouldn’t have missed a single question to Ron Paul.
This isn’t conspiracy theory, this is the fact. Mitt, McCain and Giuliani had spoken 3 times before Dr. Paul got one question.
I do not count the “what about Fred Thompson” question. For this reason, I find it hard to judge many of the candidates as they got far less opportunity.
The insult was increased by the comments afterwards about Ron Paul voters in the FOX poll and Rudy taking a cheap shot at Paul needing his “own” debate. Show a man 10 times elected to office and a Doctor in the military some respect.
I do ask this though, I know Ron Paul is popular online as I love him too. I ask that the many Ron Paul supporters try to find another candidate to say something nice about as well. Paul supporters are everywhere, but we need to find a sliver of love for others ont he stage as well. I thought Tancredo really stepped it up tonight and he understands that safety of AMERICANS comes before anyone else and all other roles of the office. Tancredo is our co-winner.
Mike Huckabee: B+
Huckabee was on his way to winning until he locked horns with Ron Paul. They both had good points, but in the end Huckabee had nothing left to say but “do it for honor”, and sounded like a campaign poster. Co-winner.
Tom Tancredo: B+
I think Tancredo finally came off as very sane, very sharp and very dedicated to serving his country. He seemed more patriotic then ever and spoke to a wider audience. He didn’t get enough time for many to agree with this, but he is my co-winner.
Ron Paul: B
Solid as always, smarter than anyone on stage as always, more passionate than anyone I have ever seen as always, the greatest true American on the stage. FOX just didn’t give him a chance to relax and speak his complete mind. I bumped Ron Paul from a B- to a B as he dominated the live FOX poll with 33% of all people picking him as the winner of this debate. I have Ron Paul winning every debate so far, he got a bit angry this time, but still he is clearly the most educated and insightful candidate.
Mitt Romney: B
He got nasty questions, loaded questions and locked horns all night with everyone. I do think though his new “Mitt” tougher stance on illegal immigration might make him my guy down the stretch.
Rudy Giuliani: C
Went to the well about NYC way to many times. I like Rudy, but he needs a new joke, he needs a new niche.
Brownback: C+
Nice enough, very middle of the road. As always he seems like a prop in the background.
John McCain: B
I hate McCain, I hate his “card reader” look. I hate that he is far less intelligent than anyone on that stage, but he had a decent outing and delivered some easy to cheer for “lowest common denominator lines”.
We get it John, Porkbarrel….chop….you….yes, already. Now what about when its porkbarrel medicaid for illegals? What happens to that proposal?
Duncan Hunter: C+
Another person who disappeared up there and likely is at the end of his run. I had liked Hunter, now I just don’t see a reason to make him “my guy”.

What sentiment about the war best describes your views?

SIGN THE FAIR TAX PETITION?
Well, our local Ron Paul group generally gives McCain love when he talks about preventing torture, we give Tancredo love on border security, and we give Huckabee love because he has the second-sanest Iraq position and seems to be the only candidate other than Ron Paul who isn’t rattling sabers with Iran. Personally, I like Huckabee, he’s my second choice and will make a fine VP for Ron Paul.
Ron Paul was awesome as always. Wish I could have fast forwarded through Rudy Giuliani talking about New York, New York, blah blah blah! :)
I LOVE Brownback.
He can’t even get his mother to vote for him on the viewer call-in polls … he needs love badly.
You’re right about Fox trying to minimize Ron’s time … Brent was furious that he got into an interesting mano-a-mano exchange with Huckabee and ended up with more than 2 minutes of talk time.
Jolliest of all was Sean Hannity, seeing the poll results: “Awwwww. Here we go again. It’s driving me crazy!!” I doubt that Fox will even publish the results of that viewer survey on their website. Fair and balanced … riiiight.
I’m not sure what to think about a website with a reporter who is trying to give Ron Paul a fair shake, even going so far as to call him, rightly, the most intelligent man and truest American on the stage, while at the same time urging me, the reader, to sign up for that idiot Ann Coulter’s newsletter.
Sorry, but unless it’s some kind of underhanded guilt-by-association thing you’ll have to explain it to me.
Is this journalist sure he’s working for the right website? (That was a joke recalling the question asked of Paul in the first Fox debate about him running for the nomination of the wrong party.)
I think it is tell-tale that 3 of the 8 advertisements at the bottom of my current page are showing Ron Paul materials. Only one for Romney, one for “Fred”, one for Tancredo, even one for Ronald Reagan! Such is the state of the Republican party. It’s time the Republican voters acknowledge that Iraq was a HUGE mistake and that the non-interventionist foreign policies espoused by Dr. Ron Paul are the ONLY way forward for the party that actually make Constitutional, and tactical, sense!
Clear winner, Ron Paul, consistant , priciplesd, a much needed conscience for the G, and the Democrats for that matter. The besdt out there, to help bring American out of the mess it is in.
Please…Ron Paul looks old and sounds old. A four year term as president will kill him. He is 72!!!! And don’t go into the fact that Ronald Reagan was old too and was our best president please.
A correction to point out.
If you missed it… the first question was regarding Fred Thompsons presumed entry into the race.
Huckabee as first to answer and the Dr. Paul was asked.
That was at about the 4 minute mark./
I give the Dr. an A-.
Was an A+ till he talked about GOP Party spiraling downward.
I can care less of Political partys.
too old, my dad is 85 and sharp as a tack. Ron Paul is clearly much more read and informed than anyone else on that stage, plus he makes sense and basis everything on the rule of American and International law. Honor my ass, he is the most consistent and honorable candidate from either party. He is NOT a MEMBER OF THE CFR, like nearly all the rest. Why do you think the msm hates him?
Ray, My dad is 85 as well. He is in good health and has served an honorable life. But the job of the president is a very, very demanding job and I know my dad could not hold up to the pace and stay 100%. Just the stress of the job will take it’s toll and everyone will age twice as fast as usual…Ron Paul included.
Dr. Ron Paul Continues to amaze me!
One Month ago my then 17 year old son tuned me in to Dr. Paul’s message and I have not been the same since.
For the last 30 days I have been a youtube fanatic, watching many presentations on Dr.Paul, 911 information that I never knew existed and many other interesting and informative videos and blogs.
I have always idly sat by while the political process proceeded. I watched Baseball and Football, I watched rental videos, went fishing and out to dinners with my wife and children.
The reason I have never been involved in the political process, as I have just come to realise is the simple fact that no candidate has ever expressed views that I felt represented my views and the views of the people who I know in my everyday life.
I never really new what the “old ” republican party stood for until Dr.Paul educated me.
I urge everyone who reads this to drop whatever party affiliations you may have and listen to what Dr. Ron Paul has to say.
Forget all of your preconcieved notions of left or right .
Let your intellectual side be your guide.
Let your knowledge of right and wrong be your guide.
Remember that everyone can vote in the primaries. If enough democrats went to each end every republican primary we would be able to vote in Dr. Ron Paul as the republican candidate. Then our choice would be between two candidates that support our immediate exit from Iraq.
My son turned 18 on Sept. 5th, he spent his birthday in bootcamp at Fort Jackson SC.
he graduates on Oct. 5th then he will spend 7 months in advanced technical training.
That gives me 8 months before I have to start worrying about a knock coming to my door to tell me that something horrible has happened.
I believe that Dr. paul is the best hope for our country.
S, Hahn
All the candidates (with the exception of Rudy) have good points on some things. If Rudy were to win I’d pack my bags and move out of the country while I still was “allowed to”. I was impressed with many answers. However, with that said, I do not believe that the best choice to begin to put this country back on track as a sovereign nation that protects the rights of it’s citizens is any other then Ron Paul. I do NOT agree with everything but I also realize he could not possibly do everything he wants. This is what we elect congressmen for. I do believe he would protect the citizen’s interests with whatever he needed to do to do that.
I want more.
I am SICK of the American people being used as “useful idiots” , manipulated by BOTH parties. They constantly dip out of the same cup and present us with “choices” from the same pot of swill. (sigh!)
I am voting against the WAR. We Democrats got in last election and consequently FUNDED the surge. Good Lord! Nancy Pelosi even tabled the Bush impeachment initiative (but it’s still ALIVE!) I don’t trust ANY of them!
I want us OUT of Iraq. I want our Country to stop doing the bidding of Big Business married to Big Government.
Stop being a good Democrat. Stop being a good Republican. Start being a good American.
I’m voting to get out of Iraq and Israel and the whole damn Middle East.
I’m voting to get out of Korea.
I’m voting to get out of NATO.
I’m voting to bring ALL our troops home and protect our own borders and stop the stampede. Our country is going BROKE and we can’t afford this.
I’m voting for Ron Paul whose been against this thing from the very start, and against alot of other things as well. The media (corporate) will try and paint him as a racist or a kook but just do your OWN homework.
Nobody explains Ron Paul better than Ron himself. Do your own homework. You can listen here (thank God they can’t control the internet…YET!)
