Hannity Hating Ron Paul
Fox television, the broadcaster of the affair, conducted a “text messaging poll” immediately upon its conclusion. When the results were tabulated, commentator Sean Hannity, apparently unhappily surprised by the results, announced that Ron Paul had won the poll “with 33 percent” of the vote. Next, he said was former Arkansas governor Mike Huckaby with 18 percent.
Hannity Grudgingly Reports that Ron Paul Won the Debate
Sean Hannity not only refused to congratulate the winner, he downplayed the significance of the polling triumph by the one candidate who clearly stood out from the other seven debaters. Having just admitted that Paul had won the poll, Hannity immediately made reference to the supposedly small portion of the American electorate who support the Texas congressman when he added, “He’s having all of those three percent of people calling in, I’m sure.” After a comment from co-host Alan Colmes who suggested that Paul “just did very well,” Hannity mumbled a response: “He got 33 percent. Well, it happens….”
In other words, in Hannity’s mind, Ron Paul’s popularity with those who had not only viewed the debate but had troubled themselves to transmit their opinion about who won should be discounted. It is certain, however, that if John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, Mitt Romney, or one of the others had won the poll, he would have received Hannity’s congratulations.
