A Ron Paul supporter explains while he respects Mike Huckabee but can’t support him.
Most of those in the post support Ron Paul, but agree Mike Huckabee is a solid and honorable candidate for President.
Here’s his rant.
“Huckabee seems to be a solid candidate but I could not vote for a commander in chief who would go against the recommendation of his field generals.
Aside Huckabee apparently believing that America is more about honor in defeat (repub party, not the military) and damn the constitution and its meddlesome laws for the national gov’t, here is where I ask the reader to compare these statements.
“The surge will run its course . . . There are limits to what our military can provide, so my recommendations have to be informed by – not driven by – but they have to be informed by the strain we have put on our military services,” Gen Petraeus told ABC news.
“We have to continue the surge,” said Huckabee.
Why do we have to continue the surge Mike? What do we gain by straining our troops even further? We have been “surging” for 7 years! Surge = Shock and Awe = War on Terror.
These are hollow words and not grounded in any principle. Lets talk about honor again. How is it honorable to continue to “Surge” our strained military? Wouldn’t it be more honorable to set some realistic goals for these brave and selfless volunteers and congratulate them for planting our flag in the middle of downtown terror central? They did their jobs already.
Now let them enjoy their success. And let us stop paying for honor over and over again to the tune of 7.4 million dollars an hour.
Let me be clear, I love our troops and have a tremendous amount of honor and respect for all of our armed forces, civil servants, firemen, policemen. I work my ass off everyday to be as efficient and profitable as I can be and spend at least 30% of my day sacrificing for my fellow Americans.
Unfortunately, we as a nation have made more than a few mistakes that have created our own crisis. Every day millions of Americans have to decide to either buy food or go to the dentist. A growing number of Americans are being forced in to substandard education. Our money is growing weaker and weaker. We are being sucked dry in our lust for that elusive thing called honor. For what? So we can stand next to a soldier in the slave pit and say hey man, you are my hero.
Think about it folks. 7.4 million an hour for 160k troops. In a regular job thats 43.75 bucks an hour. But we pay our troops 24/7. Thats 1,050 per troop per day. In your regular 8 hour a day shift, thats 131 bucks an hour.
Not saying it should be more or less. I am upper middle class and thats 3 times what I make an hour. That to me is haunting. Not because I am still greedy, but because when I think how much I do everyday to make my living, and then think that it doesnt even pay for 1/3 of what it cost to keep a soldier fighting for HONOR halfway around the world!
I thought football was excessive. This war is nuts and the spending on it is what is causing our country to sink. Trust me, there are not that many 90k/year jobs being created out there.
“These comments and this article are the words of “John in FLA” fom the other post. We appreciate his opinion, but it is his opinion. We respect everyone’s right to have one, and agree with some not others.

What sentiment about the war best describes your views?

Huckabee also seemed to be in favor of RF ID Chips they way he said people should be tracked like UPS and Fed Ex track packages?????
huckabee let me down…
i now support Ron Paul.
Ron Paul really deserves more recognition for his unflappable stance on all of the issue. He is now just about being anti-war. In fact, I wouldn’t characterize Ron Paul as anti-war outside of these debates.
These are truly the times that the writers of the constitution were concerned about. The law was not written during times of Peace. The law was written out of the ashes of a revolution and it was written so that future generations would never have to live under the horrors of an oppressive ruling elite EVER again.
If we follows those Laws then we will be following the advise of great men who overcame great odds and won a great war. Ron Paul clearly understands the context of the constitution and thank God he does. Even if Ron Paul cannot win this election, the power shift in this country is on.
More men like Ron Paul will rise up and our country can avoid another bloody revolution.

I’m sorry but the troops do not make 1050.00 per day. They would get their base pay, hazardous duty pay and would not be subjected to taxes. Pay is based by grade and time in. Most young enlisted military families qualify for welfare. It really sickens me to think of what our military has to go through for such little pay.
Monthly Pay scale for the military.

In a follow-up interview Huckabee said that a president should back up the policy of any previous president, you can’t pick and choose which policies which came before to support.
This reminds me of the Borden character in the movie and novel Prestige. (I don’t want to spoil either, so I’ll say no more.)
I’m not sure what Huckabee means by this. If I suddenly realize I’m beating somebody in a back alley, do I… Be consistent and keep beating him? Keep beating him in a way that somehow improves him? I would think the better way always starts with stop beating the fellow.
Ex-Military Spouse -
i understand that each person serving doesn’t make that money. its the point of paying for honor on a daily basis. Who knows exactly how much it cost to run this machine, but it is quite obvious to all but the most die hard war fan that we will never see a return on our investment dollar wise.
All the more sickening as you pointed out, we do not honor our military by forcing them to pay for the mistakes of Constitution hating government, and then returning the favor with subsidized housing on the outskirts of military bases.
Our troops need allies, true allies who understand what is at stake. When the chips are down, the only true ally our troops have is Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Not because its what I believe or what Ron Paul believes, but because men who found honor hiding behind walls, setting booby traps, and using guerilla warfare (aka terrorist) tactics created a our country based on these principles.
“If the basis of a popular government in peacetime is virtue, its basis in a time of revolution is virtue and terror — virtue, without which terror would be barbaric; and terror, without which virtue would be impotent.” [Robespierre, speech in Fr. National Convention, 1794]
I was leaning towards Huckabee after Iowa, but this video clinched Ron Paul for me. For now, I’m supporting him.
I have to agree that Huckabee is proably the best public speaker without being an irritating twit like Guiliani who is so full of ego and bile.
It sounded like Huchabee was going to take off after the Iowa near win, but last night taht BUNPER STICKER GARBAGE about letting other peoples kids keep dying in a police OCCUPATION of a foreign nation (not a war), was a HUGE disappointment.
Presdients need to deal in facts, not bumper sticker slogans, we have had that through the roof with the Bush`s for far too long.
Im am going for Ron Paul.
Thank you John for your feedback.

“Obviously, this Ron Paul supporter has not watched all of the GOP Debates or he would be familiar with the fact that Governor”.
Huckabee has said that the “key” in Iraq is that we need to listen more to the Generals on the Ground…leading this War against Terrorism. See the video clip HERE:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zF0sPKBEY-c
Currently, the recommendation from the Generals was to increase the “surge” by our Troops, re-establish areas of safety, and gradually let the Iraq forces take control of their own freedom.
I wish Ron Paul supporters would realize how out of touch their candidate is with the general public. See Frank Luntz highlighting viewers approval of Mike Huckabee over Ron Paul HERE:

Ive seen all the debates and see that tracking of the fan approval on TV for Huckabee.
They both believe what they say and thats america.
But that line graph is useless because of one simple fact…
The truth isn’t always popular.
If I say
” we need to balance the budget and pay down national debt”
Then I said
” God bless the US army and our enemies better watch their butts!!!”
The second statement would register higher by far, but it would still be simple minded and less intelligent.
Its not my personal view but….
The war is unpopular with most americans…true
Illegal immigration is unpopular with most americans….true
Ron paul is on the right side of both of these issues, So why is it so hard for the media to believe that he may be truly popular and make sense.
He is on the majority side of the two largest issues.
I am in the middle on the war issue, I do believe that “we broke it we bought it”…though i would say “when your lost, you need to start from where you are.”
Hi JR,
Thank you for pointing out that Huckabee has said he will listen to the generals. In light of the most recent comments by Gen Petraeus, I feel that Huckabee is just trying to say the “right” thing and not really listening. This story ran on 9/4/2007 and is where my Gen Petraeus quote came from.
http://www.abcnews.go.com/WN/Story?id=3556742&page=2
I do not know what the general will recommend but this news right before the debate seemed to go completely unrecognized by Huckabee in his pitch to continue the war for honor.
I think that the general revealed several important clues about the concerns that the military commanders in the Middle East are considering. The most looming concern is that of the “strain” that a 7 year long war to recover our pre-9/11 honor has caused on the Armed Services.
Do you think that it is any coincidence that we are also experiencing similar strain in our economy and yes even a strain in the cultural and moral fabric of our nation?
It is not a coincidence. I do not claim to be more in touch with the military than anyone, especially Huckabee who is in the business of public service. However, I once again believe that it is common sense that any Military Commander worth is stars is going to ask for more resources while his men are bogged down in the middle of a 7 year long quagmire.
I don’t think that anyone expects the General to come out and say, “Retreat!”. I also don’t think that any one expects the General to come out as our current commander and chief did and say “Victory!”.
That being said, the President of the US should first consider what the Constitution says about War. Already the basis of the war is unconstitutional. However lets assume that this was a constitutionally declared war and Ron Paul is president.
First off, the war isn’t just putting a strain on the military as the General alluded to. It is also putting a huge burden on the current economy. This does not bode well for even the next generation of Americans.
Next, Gen Petraeus isn’t the only Commander who acknowledges the strain that this fight has caused. The strain factor on the Armed Services has been something of a back burner issue for years now. I can only assume that with the same volunteers rotating in and out of this fight, nothing has been done to relieve this pressure. This is like the 6th quarter in a football game with 4 minutes left on the clock. Even the fans in the club seats are getting tired of it.
Finally, and I will use another quote from this story which only Ron Paul seems to understand.
He specifically points to progress with respect to Syria. “We believe that there have been fewer suicide bombers coming through Syria, and we are cautious about this assessment, but we do think that the Syrians may have been taking more active steps against al Qaeda, which is understandable,” Petraeus said. “I mean, if al Qaeda were ever to succeed in Iraq, the next thing they’d do is turn … [to] Damascus. I can assure you.”
Let me repeat that.
“I mean, if al Qaeda were ever to succeed in Iraq, the next thing they’d do is turn … [to] Damascus. I can assure you.”
Pull the troops out now, its not our fight.
Ron Paul 2008
I believe in respecting those differ with you. However, based on her record and conduct I do not respect Huckabee. Just this past week he bore false witness against Ron Paul claming that Ron Paul said that the United States was responsible for 9-11.
Ron Paul has never stated this and has clearly stated he does not believe this.
Huckabee has slandered opponents of illegal immigration calling them racist. When the vast majority of opponents to illegal immigration are not racist.
Huckabee also raised taxes and spending ever year while his was governor yet claims he is
economic conservative.
Even while was slandering Paul and oppents of illegal immigration he has praised the Clintons.
No Huckabee is a phony and con artist. He makes jokes instead of substantive debate points.
Huckabee is not an honorable man.
“Just this past week he bore false witness against Ron Paul claming that Ron Paul said that the United States was responsible for 9-11.”
“Huckabee has slandered opponents of illegal immigration calling them racist. ”
You have a link for these? If he did say that I will write it up and fry him for it.
We already have one lindsey graham, dont need another.
He called Ron Paul ludicrous for it. Just google news search for Huckabee ludicrous.
He made the same mistake the 9/11 mayor made. I was going to post this last night when it came out, there truly is only one Republican Candidate worth considering at this point as Huckabee is just too uninformed to lead.
“He really lit my fuse when he continued to assert that it was our fault we were attacked on Sept. 11,” Huckabee told reporters.
If you go to Huckabee’s own blog there is post showing his interview done feb 11 2007 ABC and he asked about a comment were he called illegal immigrants racist. Huckabee defense is basicly I didn’t call them all racist just some.
I haven’t found out what that exact early comment was but it obviously happened shortly before the interview.
And lonewacko.com/blog/archives/002604.html
has a quote from the Arizona Republic about Huckabee using very harsh language against the supporters of of anti-illegal immigration bill including the use of the word “racist.”
There many more, if you care to you be able to find many articles.
So there really is no doubt about the true nature of Huckabee’s pro-illegal immigration record and his willingness to use elitist language putting down opponents.
Right now Huckabee sees which way the winds are blowing and is trying to fool people.
But if you study Huckabee I think you will realize that he pretty empty on core convictions and has spend his time trying to get the rich establishment to let inside the club.
Unlike Paul who has told them that there club stinks.
So Huckabee really is a lot like Bill Clinton phony man of people and suck up to the big money establishment.
