SCHIP Full Of Holes
The Chicago Tribune has a letter from U.S. Rep. Judy Biggert as a conservative voice of common sense against the socialism disguised as medicine for children.
Liberals pushing for SCHIP lie to you. They know it has intentional loopholes. They could easily close these loopholes and get this bill passed, but Democrats choose not to “help the “children” by leaving this bill full of intentional exploits.
Rep. Judy Biggert said the following :
“While I agree that the president’s proposal for a $5 billion extension is not enough money to cover all low-income children, that’s where our agreement ends. …..
A “second look at the facts” reveals more than a few problems with the bill. This is a program designed to provide health care for low-income children. But in Illinois, 45 percent of the SCHIP recipients are adults — not children. According to the state’s own projections, Illinois will spend more SCHIP money on adults than on children during the next fiscal year. …….
The problems go deeper. Some states have used the program to enroll illegal aliens, higher-income families, and those already covered by private insurance. ….
… this bill would permit all three.
Instead of requiring proof of citizenship to sign up for benefits, the bill would let states merely ask for a Social Security number — a process that the Social Security Administration has warned would not verify legal status.
Special exemptions also would allow families with incomes up to $83,000 per year to receive subsidies. As a result, the Congressional Budget Office projected that one out of three new enrollees in the program would drop his or her private insurance to receive government benefits………
……As a long-time supporter of programs for needy children, I would like nothing better than to vote for a good SCHIP bill. Let’s quit the political nonsense and pass a compromise that puts needy children first and pays for it honestly”
If Democrats really “love the poor children” then demand proof of legal citizenship and make the age cutoff 16 years old and this bill would already be law.
The truth is that this isn’t about “poor children” this is about government control and socialism.
