1000 New Charlotte Jobs?

By on June 11, 2009

CHARLOTTE — The expansion of a housing assistance non profit is bringing more than 1,000 jobs to Charlotte.

Gov. Perdue made the announcement on Thursday, saying the Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America will expand its operations in Charlotte and invest $4.5 million over the next five years. The Boston-based non profit provides counseling and lending assistance to people with poor credit.

“We are California, New Jersey and North Carolina in the magnitude in the severity of the budget crisis in this state,” said Perdue. “This is nothing but good news for people — 1,000 jobs.”

A total of 512 people are expected to be hired at a job fair held Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. at the NACA Counseling Center on Executive Center Drive in Charlotte. The median salary for those jobs is $36,000 a year.

The rest of the people will be hired by the end of this year and into the next few years.
