From the Observer we find this Democrat mailer that recently went around claiming that John Lassiter is against families, children and neighborhoods.

Even the liberal Observer finds these accusations to be lies and false statements. In the end though the Observer sticks to its pro-liberal ways and says its a “mixed message”, when it’s clearly dirty politics by the Democrats for Anthony Foxx.

“The N.C. Democratic Party paid for a mailing attacking Republican mayoral candidate John Lassiter’s ties to developers.

What the ad says

“John Lassiter has consistently sided with the big developers against homeowners.

“Lassiter sided with developers over children. Lassiter opposed impact fees on developers to build new schools. While protecting his developer friends, he opposed funds for after-school programs.

“Lassiter opposed pedestrian-friendly streets and neighborhoods. He sided with his developer donors against guidelines that called for more streets, shorter blocks and wider sidewalks.”

The facts

To back its first contention, the mailer cites articles including one in 2007 by an Observer community columnist about a zoning decision. It noted how much money the developer involved gave to Lassiter, as well as Mayor Pat McCrory and other council members. Two Democrats and two Republicans got more than Lassiter.

(So its hypocritical at best, a lie at worst)

On the claim about children, the mailer refers to a 2005 vote by a council committee against so-called impact fees to help pay for schools. Lassiter was one of three members to reject the fees, urging schools to ensure they spent existing money wisely. Democrat Patrick Cannon and Republican John Tabor voted with him.

(So its hypocritical at best, a lie at worst)

In a straw vote on the 2004 budget, Lassiter opposed using city money for after-school programs. Lassiter called it “a dangerous step” for the city to fund programs the schools and county might better support.”

Pretty clear is this same ad could apply to a number of Democrats that work with Lassiter. Also clear votes that the ad calls “not caring”, responsible taxpayers would call “not wasting our money”.

The Democrat formula seems to always be hypocrisy and not spending means not caring.

This is realy well captured on the Anthony Foxx for mayor blog in this statement. This is the response to Lassiter saying he will lower and keep taxes lower in Charlotte.

“You have to make choices in government, as you do in life; nobody likes higher taxes, but people tend not to like unpaved roads, suspended garbage pickup and rampant crime in the absence of police officers, either. So how do you decide?”

Why is it when Democrats, from Obama to Foxx, talk about sacrifices or making choices the sacrifices are always more taxes. Why is it that the left thinks the only form of sacrifice they are looking for is in the form of more cash payments from us to them?

It is always the money of the taxpayer that is sacrficed and never ever the government programs they use to promote themselves to the next highest post or pay increase.

When I hear of school offering free breakfasts and lunches during the summer when there is no school? basically operating as a government soup kitchen? With fraud and illegal immigrants accounting for 20+% of the recipients?

I see sacrifices that should come well before Democrats tell me I need to pay more from my paycheck to keep them open.
