Mooresville’s water bills growing

By on June 23, 2010

Anyone in Mooresville feels the pain of very high water related utility bills. Some of the highest n the area. This week while battling with a budget, the board managed to pass on a 5 to 1 vote a few provisions and avoid raising taxes.

Only member Miles atkins did not vote for the much lower price increase that passed.

As of this article the tax rate for Mooresville of 58 cents per $100 of valuation. The current plan passed will manage to not increase that tax. The other issue, and a big one for every working class person in Mooresville is the insanely high water and sewer bills. A normal working class homeowner could expect to shell out perhaps $2000 every year for these utilities. The orignal proposal was to jack up this rate 10% on every person’s water bill and a whopping 17% on everyone’s sewer related bill.

Anyone feel like they have an extra $400 lying around to pass on to the town of Mooresville? Not many do.

The commissioners finally did approve a proposal for a meager 3% increase in water bills and a smaller 5.6% in sewer utility prices.

A very good time for a little relief for the people of Mooresville.

The only commission member voting against the proposal with much lower utility prices for families, and no increase in property taxes was member Miles Atkins.
