Tony Gurley For Lt. Governor?

By on January 19, 2012

Time to have a little TEA with the governor Bev Perdue?

When you live in North Carolina and are on of the highest taxed states in the southeastern US, a little bit of TEA party might be the relief and pathway to growth for the state. As property taxes in many counties begin to outrace the fallen home values and a state tax that other states do not have North Carolina may be having a bit of a “why live here” issue.

You want real sustainable growth, you want a business to say North Carolina makes the most sense for our business to prosper, then you need lower taxes for them to operate and lower cost of living in general.

With the president set to land his golden chariot in Charlotte to receive what he thinks is a crowning for four more years, the message of North Carolina should be that personal responsibility is the first step on any recover.

This message rings clear in the latest online video for our new Lt. Governor candidate Tony Gurley. Not only does he come out with the most basic message of the tea party following, personal responsibility, but also highlights the importance of the energy it brings to traditional conservative politics.

Tony C. Gurley was born and raised in Western North Carolina. After graduating from high school, Tony attended UNC – Chapel Hill and received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy in 1978. He continued his studies at UNC and in 1981 received his Masters Degree in Pharmacy Administration. In 2000 Tony entered Law School at North Carolina Central University and graduated with a Juris Doctorate in 2003. After receiving his law degree, Tony, along with classmate Andrew Cookson, opened the Law Firm of Gurley & Cookson in Raleigh.

Since his election to the Wake County Board of Commissioners, Tony has served as Vice-Chairman in 2005 as Chairman in 2006, 2007, and 2010.
One little known fact about Tony is his ability to drive race cars. In the 1990’s Tony owned and raced stock cars at Orange County Speedway and at South Boston Speedway in Virginia. He holds two track championships in North Carolina and one in Virginia. The last year he raced he owned two cars. He drove one and current NASCAR driver Scott Riggs drove the second.

Tony and his wife Robin have two grown children, Robert and Michael. They are members of the North Raleigh Presbyterian Church.

You can read more about Tony Gurley at his website and decide for yourself. We discuss him here today to salute his embrace of the Tea Party movement as a tool for energizing traditional small government views. Perhaps while the president is preaching ‘hope and change’ in Charlotte, candidates like Tony Gurley will bring a real change in North Carolina’s current direction hudreds of miles away in Raleigh.
